(University of The Arts London)切尔⻄艺术学院(Chelsea College of Arts),获纯艺术硕⼠学位。

  About the Exhibition

ASTRA ART, in collaboration with the Italian art furniture brand Delvis, will present a new exhibition titled "Vast Whispers" on August 2, 2025. This exhibition places contemporary artworks within the authentic home settings of Delvis's flagship store in Shanghai, sparking a resonance between art and daily life. It transforms living spaces from mere functional areas into vessels of emotions and memories.

The exhibition features nine contemporary artists from diverse generations and contexts: Eva Chen, Huang Long, Lin Mao, Lou Ye, Meng Yangyang, Yu Fang, Zhou Yuan, Jansword Zhu, Zdenek Konvalina. Through various mediums such as painting, installation, and sculpture, they collectively explore the contemporary expression of "home" as a spiritual realm and emotional container within an Italian living space. The exhibition will run until October 25.

If we consider "home" as an unfinished painting, each ray of sunlight adds a splash of color, and each waxing moon underscores the narrative of the canvas. We start with "home" as our focal point and use "art" as our radius, exploring the sedimentation of time within living spaces, the flow of memories across canvases, and the subtle tension between the intimacy of emotions and their public expression. Ultimately, this journey outlines a spiritually resonant return home and a lyrical ode to expansive whispers.

The term "vast" refers to the timeline woven together by home and memory, from ancestral wooden cabinets to walls adorned with childhood doodles. In the crevices of time lie countless untold stories. The frame becomes a window into memory, allowing glimpses of eternity, while art humbly captures the boundlessness of time within the texture of paint. New roots may eventually grow among the weaves of carpets and the shadows of screens.

We invite you to slow your gaze and listen closely; the "whispers" lurking between brushstrokes are murmuring memories related to home, resonating with emotions in their subtleties. "Vast Whispers" is a lyrical poem about home and memory, transforming living spaces into containers of recollection, where the weight of time intersects with the lightness of emotion.

As a new and innovative gallery, ASTRA ART has focused on the boundaries between art and life since its establishment in 2023, creating a dialogue platform between contemporary art and different contexts. The gallery continually seeks contemporary artists with unique languages and long-term potential, fostering tighter connections between art and everyday life, individuals and society, and creating an open, diverse, and warm artistic ecosystem.

Delvis, as an Italian art furniture brand, is dedicated to merging aesthetic living with artistic practice. Rooted in the philosophy of "space as narrative," the brand believes that living spaces are evolving stories, with each area representing a chapter recounting feelings, impressions, or journeys. Each product, through its materials, colors, and textures, cultivates a living environment rich in cultural depth and emotional warmth.

This partnership allows art to naturally reside within life, collaboratively crafting a spiritual realm of "home." Art extends beyond the traditional "white cube" exhibition space into the reality of "home," expanding the interaction and display boundaries between works and viewers—listening to the vast echoes of art amidst the whispers of home. As we stand at the intersection of life and art, we may hear those civilized objects, materials, and even light recounting in another language: all lofty poetry ultimately finds its resting place in the most exquisite patterns of everyday existence.

  About the Artists

Eva Chen is an artist currently working and living in New York. She graduated with an MFA in Textile Design from Parsons School of Design in May 2025. Specializing in metal weaving and 3D-printed textiles, Chen has collaborated with several renowned brands. Her work gained significant attention during New York Fashion Week, and she is currently a member of the SDA (Surface Design Association). Inspired by Chinese traditional craft, mathematical structures, and everyday life, Chen believes that every thread carries wisdom and potential, constructing physical structures while embodying dimensions of sensory experience and time. Her creativity stems from meticulous observation and iterative practice, focusing on the interdisciplinary dialogue between materials and technology. She strives to find a dynamic balance between the hand and the machine, allowing the precision of technology and the warmth of the human touch to coexist.

Huang Long was born in Beijing in 1994. He graduated from the University of Utah with a BFA in Fine Arts in 2017 and from Central Saint Martins with an MFA in Fine Arts in 2021. His work explores the transition between text and image, creating a poetic form of self- expression in a pre-conscious state. He seeks to find an unstable balance between image and text, as well as space (stillness) and time, presenting these opposing concepts as coexisting.

Lin Mao, Dr. of Fine Arts, Calligraphy, China Academy of Art ; Member - China National Calligrapher Association; Having lived in London, Singapore, Hong Kong, and traveled to many countries in Europe, North America, Asia, Australia and Africa, Lin Mao embeds rich life experience into his artistic vision, multi-dimensional inspiration, and unique perspective of his artwork creations. Since his childhood, Lin Mao has received rigid family education and traditional aesthetic training. He studied all major styles of Chinese calligraphy, from bronze engraving to manual scripts, from stone carving to paper. He won many awards in national calligraphy competitions, including first prize. At the age of seventeen, Lin Mao was admitted by the Chinese Calligraphy Association as the youngest member at that time.

Lou Ye, born in 1993 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, Lou Ye holds both a bachelor's and master's degree from the School of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy at the China Academy of Art. She currently lives and works in Hangzhou. Lou Ye's work uses traditional Chinese painting materials, with silk as the primary medium, and employs the meticulous gongbi painting technique to explore non-realistic depictions of living forms. Her works go beyond simple imitation of natural imagery and differ from the conventional forms of traditional Chinese painting. Instead, she integrates her personal life experiences into her creations, allowing them to become a unique reflection of her psychological and intellectual perspectives, expressed vividly on silk.

Meng Yangyang, born in 1983 in Chongqing, graduated with a Master's degree from the Oil Painting Department of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in 2009. She currently works and lives in Shanghai. With a background in mixed media, Meng strives to blur the boundaries between painting, sculpture, and installation in her practice. She employs various materials that render the limits of painting ambiguous, serving both as frame and canvas. Her works uniquely reflect the inner worlds of individuals in contemporary urban settings, blending realism with expressive forms and intertwining fiction with reality. This creates a dreamlike narrative quality, imbued with a sense of nostalgia while also illuminating the complexities and alienation of modern city life.

Yu Fang was born in Nanjing, Jiangsu in 1989 and graduated from the Mural Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2011 with a bachelor's degree. He currently works and lives in Beijing. He grew up in an era where globalization and the awakening of local consciousness intertwined, and he hopes to mitigate cultural conflicts through this duality. The ' 洞喻 ' (Metaphorical Aperture) series presents glimpses of Western classical art through the form of window openings found in traditional Eastern gardens. These openings are no longer mere symbols of Eastern aesthetics; within the context of the traditional garden’s "shifting perspectives" principle, they are deconstructed into a visual narrative that transcends civilizational boundaries.

Zhou Yuan, born in 1976, graduated from the Chelsea College of Arts, University of the Arts London, in 2015 with a Master’s degree in Fine Arts. He currently lives and works in Shenzhen. Zhou Yuan’s creative practice spans diverse directions, encompassing painting, sculpture, installation, and performance, blending various forms and styles that traverse both figurative and abstract realms. His work primarily focuses on ceramics and painting, with recurring themes related to the human body and facial expressions. Influenced by internet “meme culture,” he explores how the human face and body can act as “mirrors,” reflecting and refracting the changes in the external world and internal emotions. Zhou advocates for intuitive creation, emphasizing deep contemplation while avoiding excessive reliance on logical reasoning, allowing his works to emerge naturally under specific conditions.

Jansword Zhu explores the intersections between life, technology, and the environment, dismantling the boundaries between scientism and transcendence. His work poses critical questions to us living in an evershifting post-human era. He is adept at entangling mythological systems, molecular biology, and philosophy through art, creating new possibilities for image and ideas. Zhu's art spans digital art, film, installations and paintings. His artwork Transenlight series, inspired by genetics, has gathered widespread attention.

Zdenek Konvalina was born in the Czech Republic in 1979. In 1997, Zdenek graduated from the Brno Conservatory in the Czech Republic and became a professional ballet dancer. During his time in Houston from 2002 to 2006, he began painting. In 2014, Zdenek transformed from a ballet dancer to an artist, now living and working in London and Berlin. In Zdenek’s works, he explores the boundaries of abstract composition with unique rhythms and integrates his past ballet experience with abstract expression painting, focusing on the process itself. In addition to relying on immediate feedback from the body and mind, he pursues the practice of concepts, ideas, forms, memories, and prompts in the subconscious, focusing on exploring the proportional relationship between matter and spirit.
